Lois Jean Shank 75 of Glasgow died Saturday, September 24, 2016 at her residence. Born in Findlay, OH she was the daughter of the late Donald and Clara Jane Miller Thompson. She graduated from Mount Blanchard High School in Ohio in 1959. She loved music and loved playing in the concert band. She married Thomas Doug Shank on March 8, 1980 and they started their lives together in Somerset, Kentucky before moving to Bowling Green, KY. They spent their winters and retirement days at their condominium in New Port Richey, Florida where they were owners of thoroughbred racehorses with names like Good Lord, InTownForTheDay, Star Florida, and Stephs Southern Belle. Both shared a love for horses and racing, and spent time handicapping the horse races at Dueling Grounds, Tampa Bay Downs, Ellis Park and Churchill Downs. Lois had an impeccable flair and taste for decorating the beautifully, well-kept homes they owned in Bowling Green, KY. Their first home was called Shanks Hope Farm, and later their home in River Green provided a perfect setting to entertain family and friends. As a mother, she was always so genuine, generous, and graceful; a beautiful vibrant woman who loved her family. She taught us everything by example, and demonstrated a compassion for others. She was kindhearted; always willing to help us out in times of need, and expected everyone to always do his or her very best. And mom loved to shop…all day long! She counted her days in the boutiques and shopping malls, lavishing her grandkids, family and friends, as some of the most rewarding and blessed times in her life. As a grandmother, she cherished the thought of coming home to Findlay, Ohio to be with family. Her love for her grandchildren was unending, and she made Christmas a magical time for everyone. The time spent with her during the holidays provided our entire family with precious memories and enduring traditions we will always hold close to our hearts. We will miss her, and the glorious life she shared with us all. Survivors include her husband Thomas Doug Shank of Glasgow; two sons Kevin Bell (Lynne) of Findlay, OH and Craig Bell (Kathy) of Van Buren, OH; four step-children Deanna Rees, Star Crockett (Dan), Robin Shank and Terry Shank (Cathy); a sister Nancy Rothlisberger; four grandchildren Stephanie DeCooman, Kaelan Bell, Andrew Bell and Brandon Bell; six step grandchildren Emily Gillooly, Ann Roach, Hunter Rees, John Rees, Zackery and Harrison Shank; 2 great grandchildren Ava and Cohen DeCooman and three step great grandchildren Luke Roach, Owen Roach, Barrett Gillooly. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother Donnie Thompson and a step son-in-law Bill Rees. Funeral services will be 2:00pm Monday, September 26, 2016 at the A. F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday from 11:00am until time for the service at the funeral home.
