Chester Glenn Bishop

Chester Glenn Bishop, known to most as “Buddy”, 89, passed away Sunday, September 6th, 2026, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Glasgow, Kentucky, to Chester E. and Anna Mae Bishop, who preceded him in death.

Buddy was married to Doris Harlow Bishop. Together, they showed generations what it meant to work hard and love those around you even harder. They would have been married 71 years this coming December.

Many will remember Buddy for the years he spent as a Surveyor. He loved reading, woodworking, being outside, anything that grew from the earth, and animals of all kinds. He had a wealth of knowledge about many things, but especially nature. He was most likely one of the best story tellers many had ever met, and you could count yourself lucky to hear one of his tales.

In addition to his devoted wife Doris, Buddy is survived by his daughter, Dana Powell (Bruce); daughter-in-law, Teresa Bishop; grandchildren, Danielle Elmore (Jarrod), Dakota Pierce (Andrea), Will Powell (Katelyn), Jodie Suddeth (Dustin); great-grandchildren, Avery Elmore, Adalyn Elmore, Vann Powell, Autumn Pierce, Arthur Suddeth, Royal Paul Suddeth. He also leaves behind one sister, JoAnna Atkinson (Joe); several nieces and nephews, cousins; and friends who he held dear.

He was preceded in death by his son, Chester Glenn Bishop II; his father and mother, Chester E. and Anna Mae Bishop; sisters and brother-in-laws, Patsy and Clifton Smith, Joyce and Bill Matthews. His mother-in-law and father-in-law, Willard and Pauline Harlow; and one grandson, Brent Powell. He was also preceded in death by double first cousins who were more like siblings: David Bishop (Judy), Caroll Wayne Bishop, William Rhea Bishop (Sue, who survives), Janice Burchard (Larry).

The family has chosen cremation, and a memorial service will be held at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home on Saturday, September 12th. Visitation with the family will start at 11:00 am, and the service will begin at 1:00 pm.
