Earl A. Schalk, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend, and devoted Catholic, passed away on November 12, 2025, at his residence in Cave City, Kentucky. He was born on June 18, 1947, in Dayton, Kentucky, and lived a life characterized by devotion, craftsmanship, and a deep commitment to his family.
Earl was a proud veteran who served his country in the United States Air Force as a staff sergeant. His military service instilled in him values of discipline and dedication that he carried throughout his life. Upon returning to civilian life, he began a career as a Telephone technician with Cincinnati Bell. He was also an active member of his community, joining the American Legion Post 113 in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, where he fostered connections with fellow veterans and community members. He also took pride in lifetime membership of the ELKS lodge 1115.
He was known for his impressive craftsmanship, he possessed an extraordinary ability to fix anything that came his way. Friends and family could always rely on Earl’s expertise and problem-solving skills, contributing to the warmth and hospitality he extended to all.
Earl never met a stranger; his welcoming demeanor and conversational charm made him approachable to everyone he encountered. He took great pride in his family, valuing the time spent with them above all else. His children and grandchildren were his greatest accomplishments, and he cherished every moment surrounded by their love and laughter.
Earl is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Karen Riedeman Schalk; his sons, Chris Schalk (Bretta), Matthew Schalk, and Patrick Schalk (Jennifer); and his cherished grandchildren, Bethany Minix (Austin), Mary Schalk, and Anna Katherine Schalk. He is also remembered by his brothers, Alvin Schalk (Sharon), Roy Schalk (Missy), and sisters, Joan Barbian and Wanda Smith (Doug); as well as his sister Rosie Reed and several nieces and nephews.
Earl was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Schalk; his mother, Garnett Woeste Schalk; and his sister, Anna Schalk. The legacy of his life, marked by love, service, and generosity, will continue to resonate with all who were fortunate enough to know him. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of his family and friends.

The family has honored Mr. Schalts wishes with cremation under the direction of A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home. A memorial mass will be held at a later date at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Bowling Green, KY.
