James William Bowles

James William Bowles, lovingly known as JW, passed away on September 19, 2026, at Shanti Niketan Hospice Home. He was born on December 8, 1935, in Glasgow, Kentucky, and his life was one rooted in steady work, devotion to family.

JW dedicated his career to education, serving as a teacher for Barren County Vocational School and Bowling Green Vocational School. He also earned an associate's degree from Western Kentucky University. In addition to his work in education, he served in the Army National Guard. Outside of his professional life, he enjoyed farming and playing golf.

He is survived by his son, Kendall Bowles and his wife, Stonetta; his daughter, Janet Bowles; his granddaughters, Amanda Piercy (Jamie), and Lindsey Link (Jonathan); nine great-grandchildren and his sister, Maynell Kidd. Their lives were part of the circle of love that surrounded him, and his presence will remain with them in the stories they share and the memories they hold close.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Raymond Bowles; his mother, Velma Mae Bowles; his beloved wife of 58 years, Gloria Jean Hawks, his sisters, Louise Bowles Turner and Naomi Bowles Morgan; and his son, Mark Douglas Bowles. 

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, September 23, at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home, with cremation to follow. Visitation will begin at 9:30 AM, Wednesday, until time for services at the funeral home. 

James William Bowles will be remembered with affection and gratitude for a life of service, hard work, and enduring family love. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
