James "Jim" Ruben Haynes, an esteemed self-employed logger and cherished family man, passed away on February 12, 2026, in Nashville, Tennessee, at the age of 83. Born on March 18, 1942, in Park City, Kentucky, Jim was known for his deep love and devotion to his family, a legacy that will continue through his children and grandchildren.
Throughout his life, Jim proudly served in the Kentucky National Guard, demonstrating his commitment to his country while also cultivating a passion for the land, which he pursued as a logger. His work was not just a profession, but a reflection of his love for nature and the outdoors, particularly his fondness for horses.
Jim leaves behind a loving partner, Betty Green, and is survived by his sons, Mike Haynes (Lisa), Tracey Haynes (Nita), Andy Spenser (Jeny), Greg Haynes (Kanha), and Scotty Geiser (Brandy). He is also survived by his daughters, Jamie Haynes (Liz), Jordy Smith (Justin), Cherri Irwin (Mike), and Sonja Coulter. In addition, he is survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Jim is preceded in death by his father, James Wallace Haynes, his mother, Mary Lois Green Haynes, and two sons, Jeff Haynes and John Steven Haynes.
The funeral service for Mr. Haynes will be held at 12:00 PM Tuesday, February 17th at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in the Happy Valley Memorial Gardens. Military Honors will be provided by the DAV Chapter 20. Visitation will begin Monday, February 16th 4:00PM until 8:00PM and Tuesday morning until time for the service at the funeral home.
Jim’s warmth, humor, and unwavering dedication to his family will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of his loved ones.
