Jimmie Lynn Freeman, age 80, of Glasgow, Kentucky, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Friday, October 24th.

Jimmie was born November 30, 1944, at The People’s Hospital in Jasper, Alabama, to Marvin Freeman and Reba Mae Hollaway Freeman. A 1962 graduate of Hanceville High School, Jimmie proudly represented his school as a member of both the basketball and baseball teams.

Shortly after graduation, Jimmie enlisted in the United States Army in 1963, where he served honorably until 1966. During his service, he trained as a paratrooper at the Airborne School, earning both the Sharpshooter Badge (Rifle) and the Parachutist Badge. He achieved the rank of Specialist 5 (E-5), a mid-level leadership role and non-commissioned officer position, and was assigned to the 101st Administration Company, Third U.S. Army. Jimmie carried the lessons and discipline of his military service with him throughout his life.

After his time in the military, Jimmie built a long and respected career as a purchasing agent, working for several companies including Eaton Cutler-Hammer and Chrysler in Bowling Green, and Amak/Akebono in Glasgow, from which he eventually retired.

Jimmie married the love of his life, Linda Houchens Freeman, in 1965. Together, they built a life full of love, family, and shared experiences, supporting each other through both joyful and difficult times. Their bond lasted 55 years, until Linda’s passing in 2020. Their happiest years were spent on their 12-acre horse farm in Glasgow. Jimmie and Linda were deeply involved in supporting their son, Jeffrey, as he participated in barrel racing and pole bending competitions, traveling with him to cheer him on and celebrate his successes.

Their farm was truly “home” — not only for them but for many family members and close friends over the years. It was a place where anyone who came through the doors felt welcome, loved, and supported. Family and friends often turned to Jimmie and Linda for words of encouragement, guidance, or simply a listening ear. They dwelled there until 2012, when they moved into town as caring for the farm became more difficult.

Jimmie and Linda’s hearts were fullest when surrounded by family. They adored their granddaughter, Ashley Ann Freeman Mills, attending her school programs, sporting events, award ceremonies, and every other milestone of her life. When they learned Ashley was expecting a son, they were overjoyed at the prospect of becoming great-grandparents. Sadly, Linda passed away just three months before Lucas Scott Mills was born, but Jimmie continued to cherish his “big guy,” proudly sharing every moment they had together. The two formed a special bond that will live on forever in Lucas’s heart.

Jimmie was also a lifelong fan of Alabama football — especially under coaches Bear Bryant and Nick Saban. His home was filled with Crimson Tide memorabilia, and he tried never to miss a game.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Linda Houchens Freeman; his son, Jeffrey Lynn Freeman; his sister, Marnice Freeman Medlin; and his parents, Marvin Freeman and Reba Mae Hollaway Freeman.

He is survived by his granddaughter, Ashley Ann Freeman Mills (Scott); his great-grandson, Lucas Scott Mills; his beloved siblings, Edquna Freeman Thompson, Sandra Freeman Dunn, and Jamie Freeman, whom he loved deeply and relied on, especially after the passing of his wife. He was also blessed with his sister-in-law, Ruth Houchens Glass, who was a constant source of friendship and support; they checked in with each other nearly every day, sharing laughter, encouragement, and meaningful conversations. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews with whom he shared close bonds, and by his faithful dog, Bailey, who never left his side.

Jimmie’s strength, kindness, and love for family and friends will be remembered always. Though he was never quite the same after losing his dear wife, Linda, they are now together again — at peace and home once more.

Memorial contributions can be made in Jimmie's honor to the American Heart Association and the ALS Association.
