Joyce Chapman, born on April 21, 1952, in Tompkinsville, Kentucky, passed away on May 5, 2026, at The Medical Center in Bowling Green, Kentucky, surrounded by her loved ones. Joyce’s life was a testament to devotion, creativity, and love a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend whose presence brightened the lives of many.
Joyce dedicated 20 years of unwavering service as a teaching assistant at Barren County School, contributing significantly to the educational experiences of children at Temple Hill Elementary and Eastern Elementary Schools. Her commitment to education was grounded not only in her career but also in her personal achievements. She graduated from Tompkinsville High School and furthered her studies by earning an associate degree from Western Kentucky University, an accomplishment that underscored her lifelong passion for learning.
A woman of remarkable creativity and spirit, Joyce was gifted with a keen eye for decoration and restoration, breathing new life into objects most would overlook. Her love for gardening and flowers was evident to all who knew her; she lovingly tended to her yard, creating a beautiful home filled with nature’s colors and scents. Joyce delighted in thrift shopping and yard selling, always eager to embark on her next creative project. Occasionally, she enjoyed the thrill of a casino outing, but above all else, Joyce’s heart belonged to her family.
Joyce’s radiant smile and warm personality were hallmarks of her character. She was known for her joyous demeanor and the love she shared endlessly with her family and friends. A faithful member of Dover Missionary Baptist Church, Joyce cherished the fellowship of her church family, finding comfort and strength in her faith.
She is lovingly remembered by her devoted husband of 36 years, Randy Chapman; her children, Tracie Tarter (Stewart) and Tobie Copass (Michelle); grandchildren Kayla Middleton (Willi), Corey Bagby (Ryder), Blake Copass (Annie), and Autumn Coats (Isaac); and eight great-grandchildren. Joyce’s family circle also includes her sister Betty Poindexter, twin brother Royce Sheffield (Shelia), several nieces and nephews, and a special friend, Sue Copas.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Claud T. Sheffield and Lucy Proffitt Sheffield; brothers Billy Sheffield and Bobby Sheffield; sisters Beatrice Carter and Jessie Pearl Curtis; and brother-in-law James Poindexter.
The family would like to express a special thank you to Royce and Shelia Sheffield, Lisa Copas, and Danetta Wilson for all their love, endless support, and wonderful caretaking during Joyce's illness.
Memorial Contributions can be made to Dover Missionary Baptist Church in honor Joyce.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M, Saturday, May 9th, at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial at Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, May 8th, from 2:00 P.M to 8:00 P.M at the funeral home, and beginning at 8:00 A.M, Saturday until time for service at the funeral home.
