Judith Chism Grimm, 61, passed away at Hospice of Southern Kentucky on Saturday, February 8, 2014. Daughter of Ella Maurice Cunningham Chism and Reverend John Richard Chism of Barren County, Kentucky, Judith graduated from Austin Tracy High School and from Western Kentucky University with a major in history. She was a high school cheerleader and member of the Alpha Xi Delta sorority at WKU. She was a certified secondary school teacher and worked as a substitute teacher in both the Bowling Green and Metro Nashville school systems. She accomplished much in her varied careers. She acted in plays and commercials in New York City, was a booking agent for musicians in the Bowling Green and Nashville areas and worked with major country music producers in Nashville. After working in reservations management for several major hotels in Nashville, Judith returned to Bowling Green to work at Western Kentucky University. At WKU, she was first an academic advisor in the Advisement and Retention Center, then became the Academic Advisor for the WKU football team. She served in this capacity throughout the 1990s under Coach Jack Harbaugh. Before she retired for health reasons in 2001, she had become WKU's Athletic Tutoring Coordinator. In her college days, Judith was active in the Civil Rights Movement and participated in many of the major protests, marches and demonstrations held throughout the country during the 1960s and early 1970s. Throughout her life, she maintained the family tradition of supporting equal rights and the moral treatment of others. She also had a lifelong interest in animal rights and the Humane Society of the United States was one of her favorite charities. She both volunteered and worked at the Bowling Green Human Society Shelter at various times. Her last two canine adoptions are two surviving German Shepherds, Rayna and Roxie (both rescue dogs), who miss her greatly. Judith's favorite hobbies included watching TCM movies, following all forensic science TV shows, reading mystery novels and studying books about the history of Hollywood, about which she had an encyclopedic memory. In the fair weather, she also enjoyed tending the home flower gardens that she designed. If she had lived longer, she intended to volunteer for the American Cancer Society. Judith is survived by her husband, James W. Grimm, a retired Professor of Sociology at WKU; step-daughter Katherine A. Giles and son-in-law Scott Giles of Smyrna, TN; step-daughter Sarah E. Grimm of Nashville, TN; grandchildren Kaelyn, Keaton and Kohen Giles of Smyrna, TN; cousin Debra Jo Cunningham (husband Martin Huggs) of Queenstown, MD; cousin Marilyn Thomas (husband David Thomas) of Glasgow, KY; and cousin Samuel H. Cunningham (and family) of Chattanooga, TN. Funeral services will 11:00am Thursday, Feb. 13th at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home in Glasgow, with burial in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4
