Julius Larry Myatt

Julius Larry Myatt, 73, of Barren County, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 24, 2026, surrounded by his wife and sons.

Julius was born on August 23, 1953, in Louisville, Kentucky, to George Kenneth and Georgia Myatt. He had five brothers whom he loved and cared about deeply.

Julius married Teresa Witty on August 14, 1976, at Tompkinsville First Baptist Church. They loved each other and cared for one another throughout 50 wonderful years of marriage. They had two sons, Kevin and Mason, whom they loved greatly.

He loved the Lord and had no problem inviting people to church and to Jesus. Julius was beloved by everyone he came into contact with. He was someone people loved to talk to because he was a genuine person who was happy and thrilled whenever someone he knew had an accomplishment or reached a milestone.

Julius was one of the best fishermen around. He was always looking at new lures and methods for catching crappie. He took many people out on Barren River and Dale Hollow Lake simply to share his love and passion for fishing. He rarely sought to catch his “limit”; rather, he only kept what he would eat or what was needed for the next fish fry. His fish fries were always well attended by friends and anyone who wanted to come, regardless of whether he knew them or not. He wanted to share his fish and his bounty, which was a reflection of who he was throughout his life.

Music was another great joy in Julius’s life. He was a talented musician, and played a variety of instruments, but especially loved the mandolin and guitar. He often played with his brothers and welcomed anyone who wanted to join in, regardless of their ability. Bluegrass and gospel were his favorites, though every now and then he could be persuaded into a little rock and roll or an old classic. Some of his family’s most treasured memories are of Julius playing while encouraging everyone around him to sing along. His music was also an expression of his faith, and those who knew him will remember how he used his musical gifts to worship, whether playing in his living room before church on Sunday morning or at the music barn surrounded by a whole community.

He had a small farm in southern Barren County that he took great pride and joy in. He raised hydroponic tobacco plants for area farmers, and his dedication to the smallest details meant he produced the best product possible. He could grow anything on a rock because of his vast knowledge of all thing's agriculture. He taught agriculture in the Barren County school system and later transitioned to SKYCTC in the Young Farmer Program where he touched many lives. He could explain complex agricultural issues in the simplest terms so anyone could understand.

After his retirement, he progressed from education to full-time farming, where many people still sought out his wisdom at his farm for various issues, such as tobacco plants, welding and fabricating something for someone, or simply for a long chat.

Julius was affectionately known as “Pawpaw” to his five grandchildren. They were his heart, and he delighted in their everyday lives and the things young grandchildren had to say. He loved taking them to his farm pond to feed the fish. He loved picking strawberries, blueberries, and watermelons with them from his garden. He loved sitting on the front porch with them, talking and watching the hummingbirds. His grandchildren knew he loved Jesus and knew that prayer would be a part of their lives with him.

Julius Myatt was a godly, wonderful man. He served the Lord, his wife, his sons, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, family, and community with true, loving purpose. He leaves behind a legacy that is profound because he was one of the best of us.

Julius is survived by his wife, Teresa J. Myatt; his sons, Kevin (Elizabeth) and their children, Evelyn, Alexander, Emma, and Owen, and Mason (Meredith) and their son, Logan; his brothers, Jerry (Becky), Jimmy (Lorraine), Davy, and Garry Myatt; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, George Kenneth and Georgia Myatt, and his brother, Jeff.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, September 29, at Glasgow Baptist Church, with burial in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until 8:00 PM Monday at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home, and after 10:00 AM, Tuesday, at the church.
