Rebecca Rhea Greer Lowrey passed away on February 25th in Arvada, Colorado. Rebecca was born on August 26, 1921 near Austin, Kentucky. A grand celebration of her 100th birthday in 2021 was attended by many family members and friends. Rebecca was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Lowrey; her parents, Will and Blanche (Renfro) Greer; and her siblings, Mary Jo and Walter Wright. She is survived by her children, Gaye Hawkins (Jack) and Jed Lowrey (Elaine). She was Grandma Becca to her grandchildren, Kristi, Lance, and Clayton, and great grandsons, Brandon and Jacob. She also loved and adored her five nieces and one nephew. Rebecca accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age and joined Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Later in life, she enjoyed Christian fellowship at Temple Hill Baptist, Calvary Baptist, Eastwood Baptist in Bowling Green and Riverside Baptist Church in Denver, Colorado. Rebecca began her teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse in rural Barren County in 1941. She taught several years and then resigned to become a homemaker, stay-at-home mom, and active member of the community. She volunteered many hours in the PTA, church activities, and in the Temple Hill Lions Club and Homemakers. Later she returned to Western Kentucky University and received her degree and teaching credential and resumed her teaching career in Barren and Warren Counties as a reading specialist. Rebecca was a friend to many; if you were a friend of Rebecca's, you had found a friend for life. She lived the most active life and filled her days with sewing, jewelry-making, crossword puzzles, bowling, traveling, lunch with friends, and helping and serving others. Her life and legacy is one to be admired. A graveside service will be held 11:00 AM Monday, March 7th at the Happy Valley Memorial Garden Cemetery. A. F. Crow & Son is honored to be entrusted in the care of Mrs. Lowrey. Please share your condolences with the family at www.crowfuneralhome.com.
