Sarah Joyce Hume, 72, passed peacefully from this life on April 29, 2026, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital. She was surrounded by her family and friends when she took the hand of her Jesus to live eternally in Heaven.

She was born on February 21, 1954, in Glasgow, Kentucky to the late Carter Hurt and Edna Ellis Hurt. She gave her heart to the Lord in September of 1974 at Pleasant Point Baptist Church, a decision that shaped her life from that day forward.

She leaves behind a life filled with love through her devoted partner at heart, Paul Baughman, whom she loved dearly. Her son, David Byrd; her daughter, Stacy Wooten and husband Shannon; her cherished grandchildren: Tyler Simmons and his wife Courtney, Coby Lee, Cory Lee, Sadie Mae Branham-Byrd, Delaney Francis Branham-Byrd- affectionately known as her "Little Shirley Temple"- Jesse Branham, Daniel Branham and Gaige Allen.

She is also survived by her brother and sisters-in-law, Jimmy and Margert Hurt and Nancy Walden, along with her best friends who were more like sisters: Linda Young, Jackie Wyatt and Joan Ford and several nieces and nephews.

She attended Temple Hill School and went on to earn her associates degree from Lindsey Wilson College. She worked as an office administrator for several manufacturing companies throughout the years. She dedicated part of her life to education, serving as a teacher with Monroe County Schools for four years.

In recent years, she enjoyed retirement and being "Nana," doing what she loved most, spending time with her children and grandchildren, as they were the center of her world.

She had a deep love for life and the people in it. She found joy in dancing, singing, trips to the beach and working in the yard among her flowers. Her home was always open, and she was known for cooking big meals that brought everyone together. The smallest get together always became the most special moments with pure joy and laughter filling the room around her.

"Nana," also held a special place in her heart for her dog, Jack and her grand dogs, Ellie, Max and Scout.

She was preceded in death by her husband's Bobby Byrd and Eddie Hume; her sisters Virginia Spann, Iva Dee Johnson, Betty Crain, Jesse Garrison and Judy Gill; her grandparents, Page Ellis and Roxie Ellis and granddaughter, Shayla Wooten.

Funeral Services will be at 2:00 P.M, Sunday, May 3rd, at A.F. Crow and Son Funeral Home with burial in the Caney Fork Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 P.M to 8:00 P.M, Saturday, May 2nd, and beginning at 8:00 A.M Sunday until time for services at the funeral home.

Her legacy is one of love, faith, family and bringing people together. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew her- and it isn't good-bye for those that have a relationship with Jesus- it is a see ya later.
