Virginia Wood

Virginia Wood, age 89, of Cave City, Kentucky, passed away peacefully at her home on September 2, 2026. Born on March 3, 1937, in Richmond, Virginia, she was the beloved daughter of the late Percy E. and Alice (Bailey) White.

Virginia was a woman of immense talent, dedication, and deep faith. She retired as a master seamstress from E-Town Sportswear before going on to share her culinary talents as a master chef at Barren County Health Care. Her passion for baking eventually inspired her to launch a successful home business, where her custom pies, cakes, and rolls became community favorites. An ordained minister and devoted member of Harlow’s Chapel Baptist Church, Virginia lived her faith daily, sharing her warmth and generosity with family and strangers alike.

A strong believer in the transformative power of education, Virginia proudly earned her GED at age 34 and held a firm expectation that her sons would pursue higher education—a goal they proudly achieved. Above all, she cherished her role as the matriarch of a large, loving family.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Wood; her son, Peter Dodson III; and her brothers, Percy White, Horace White, Melvin White and Joseph White.

She leaves behind a rich legacy through her surviving children: Gregory R. Dodson, Sr., Larry D. Dodson (Shontelle), and Wilburn D. Fitzpatrick, Jr. (Leslie). She is also survived by 12 grandchildren: Peter R. Dodson IV, Miakia R. Dodson, Kendra R. Dodson, Antonio Dodson, Nicole L. Dodson, Alexandrea D. Dodson, Bailee M. Fitzpatrick, Isaac D. Fitzpatrick, Isaiah D. Fitzpatrick, Gabriela V. Fitzpatrick, Samuel P. Fitzpatrick, and Brittney V. Fitzpatrick; 12 great-grandchildren: Devonnah Dodson, Raven Dodson, Hannah Dodson, Sierra Dodson, Aaliyah King, Amanee Dodson, Zayden Dodson, Kalya Dodson, Latonia Dodson, Andrey Dodson, Audrey Dodson, and Kamora Dodson; and 8 great-great-grandchildren: Julius Marable, Taylin Edwards, Jaylex Dodson, Aniyla Boyd, Omari Boyd, Leiani Boyd, Kelaiah Beard, and Kadence Beard.

The family has chosen cremation under the direction of A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home.

There will be a Celebration of Life at 1:00 PM,  Wednesday, September 16th, at Harlow’s Chapel Baptist Church, located at 411 Flint Knob Road, Cave City, Kentucky 42127
